JCPenney Hours: Open & Close Times, Holiday & Sunday Hours by Location
JCPenney sets hours store by store. The store pages on jcpenney.com showed 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM on weekdays and 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM on Sunday at two Austin stores, 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Sunday in Brooklyn and Elmhurst, New York, and noon to 6:00 PM on Sunday at a Newport Center store. In its October 2025 holiday release the company said stores would close on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day; it had not posted 2026 holiday hours when we checked.
Why JCPenney Hours Vary by Location
JCPenney does not keep one national schedule. Each store sets its own hours, and stores in malls, outlet centers and downtown districts often open later or close earlier than the rest.
Based on JCPenney store pages on jcpenney.com (as shown in search results on 2026-10-25) and the JCPenney newsroom release of 2025-10-28.

JCPenney Hours Today: What Store Pages Show
Every JCPenney store page carries a Store Hours block with a live "Open Now" or "Closed" line. The stores below show how much the weekly schedule moves from one mall to the next.
| Store | Weekday / Saturday | Sunday |
|---|---|---|
| Southpark Meadows, Austin, TX | Thu 10 AM – 8 PM; Fri and Sat 10 AM – 9 PM | 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM |
| Tech Ridge Center, Austin, TX | Sat 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM | 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM |
| Brooklyn Gateway, NY | Sat 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM | 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM |
| Elmhurst, NY | Sat 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM | 11:00 AM – 8:00 PM |
| Newport Center | Sat 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM | 12:00 PM – 6:00 PM |
| Tuttle Crossing Mall, Dublin, OH | Opens at 11:00 AM | Check store page |
The six rows are a sample, not a national schedule. Mall-based stores follow the pattern of the mall around them, so the same company can open at 10:00 AM in one center and at 11:00 AM in another.
JCPenney Sunday Hours
JCPenney stores were open on Sunday at every store we looked at, but the window is short: 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM in Austin, 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM in Brooklyn and Elmhurst, and only noon to 6:00 PM at Newport Center. That is roughly seven to eight hours against ten or eleven on Saturday.
What Time Does JCPenney Open and Close?
Opening times in our sample were 10:00 AM or 11:00 AM, and weekday closings were 8:00 PM or 9:00 PM. Friday and Saturday ran an hour later than Monday through Thursday at the Southpark Meadows store. A Columbus, Ohio store at Polaris Mall showed a 9:00 PM close on Friday, and the Tuttle Crossing store in Dublin, Ohio was shown as closed and opening at 11:00 AM.
Stores inside enclosed malls can also be shaped by the mall's own schedule, so when a mall publishes hours that look different from the store page, call the store before you go.
Is JCPenney Open on Thanksgiving and Black Friday?
JCPenney announced its holiday plan in a newsroom release on October 28, 2025. It is the latest official statement we could find.
| Day | What the company said |
|---|---|
| Thanksgiving Day | Stores closed |
| Black Friday | Stores open at 5:00 AM local time |
| Christmas Eve | Stores open at 9:00 AM local time |
| Christmas Day | Stores closed |
The release also promised extended shopping hours through the season but did not list closing times. In 2026 Thanksgiving is November 26 and Black Friday is November 27. No 2026 announcement had been published when we checked on October 25, so the 2025 plan is the expected pattern. Some aggregator sites already list Black Friday 2026 hours, but they cite no company source.
JCPenney Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Hours
The 2025 release put Christmas Eve at a 9:00 AM opening and Christmas Day as a closed day. It did not give Christmas Eve closing time or New Year's hours. In 2026 Christmas Eve falls on Thursday, December 24, and Christmas Day on Friday, December 25.
Easter, Memorial Day, July 4 and Labor Day
We found no official JCPenney statement for Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, Independence Day or Labor Day, so those rows say to check your store. Stores inside enclosed malls may also be affected by the mall's own holiday calendar.
- Search for your store on jcpenney.com/locations and open its page about a week before the holiday.
- Check the mall's own holiday notice for stores inside enclosed malls.
- Call the store number on the page for same-day questions.
What a JCPenney Store Page Tells You
Each store page lists the street address, the store's own phone number, a customer service line of (800) 322-1189, a Get Directions link and a View Store Ad link next to the hours. Maps listings for the Columbus and Dublin, Ohio stores also showed in-store shopping, curbside pickup and delivery as available options.
- Store hours: a seven-day table plus a live open or closed line that includes the next opening time.
- Store phone: use it for same-day questions, since the customer service number is shared across stores.
- Store ad: a link to the store's current ad.
How Many JCPenney Stores Are Open?
The company's October 2025 release described "more than 650 stores in the U.S. and Puerto Rico," and its October 2026 release described "more than 600 stores across the U.S. and Puerto Rico." JCPenney was founded in 1902 by James Cash Penney in Kemmerer, Wyoming, according to its newsroom.
Because the store base shifts over time, confirm that your local store is still listed in the locator before planning a trip.
JCPenney Hours Compared With Other Department Stores
Department stores share the pattern of short Sundays and a closed Thanksgiving, but the details differ. Kohl's and Macy's publish store-specific hours and their own holiday calendars, so compare them before planning a shopping loop.
