Barnes & Noble Hours: Open & Close Times, Holiday & Sunday Hours by Location
Barnes & Noble bookstores set their own hours. Of the 13 store pages we read on October 21, 2026, most open at 9:00 or 10:00 AM and close at 9:00 PM Monday through Saturday, while Sunday hours end anywhere from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. The Union Square store in Manhattan stays open until 10:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.
Why Barnes & Noble Hours Vary by Location
Barnes & Noble does not keep one national schedule. Each store sets its own hours, and stores in malls, outlet centers and downtown districts often open later or close earlier than the rest.

Barnes & Noble Café Hours
Every one of the 13 store pages we read flags the store as having a café. The store pages do not list separate café hours, so the café is open while the store is, but it may stop taking orders before the store closes. If you are counting on the café late in the evening, call the store.
Barnes & Noble Union Square and Fifth Avenue Hours in New York
The two big Manhattan stores keep different schedules. Union Square, which opened in 1995, is open 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM on Friday and Saturday, and 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM on Sunday. The Fifth Avenue store keeps one simple schedule: 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM every day of the week.
Barnes & Noble, Inc. is headquartered at 33 East 17th Street in New York, a short walk from the Union Square store.
Barnes & Noble says it has about 700 bookstores across the United States. The store locator searches by city or ZIP code and returns each store's phone number, hours and event calendar.
Is Barnes & Noble Open on Thanksgiving and Christmas?
Barnes & Noble does not publish a national holiday schedule. Its help center points shoppers to each store's page for hours, and none of the 13 pages we read showed 2026 holiday hours in October. Holiday openings and closings are posted store by store.
For Thanksgiving (November 26, 2026), Black Friday (November 27), Christmas Eve (December 24), Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year's Day (January 1, 2027), look at your store's page or call it a day or two ahead.
Barnes & Noble Buy Online, Pick Up in Store
Barnes & Noble's Buy Online, Pick Up in Store service lets you reserve a book on bn.com and collect it at the store during store hours. Items that qualify show a pickup notice on the product page, in quick-add options and in the cart, but only after you set a preferred store or let the site use your location.
- Pre-order titles cannot be picked up in store until their release date.
- Each order can use only one pickup store; to collect at two stores you need two orders.
- Checkout still asks for a shipping address, even though a pickup order is not shipped.
- Not every item is eligible for store pickup.
For online orders, memberships and NOOK questions, B&N Chat is available 24 hours a day through the Barnes & Noble help center, and phone support is offered through a toll-free number listed there.
Can You Bring a Dog into Barnes & Noble?
Service animals are allowed in every Barnes & Noble store under the Americans with Disabilities Act, according to the company's help center. For pets that are not service animals there is no single national rule: each store follows the health codes of its town, county or state, so one store may welcome a leashed dog while another does not.
Because the answer depends on the location, call the store before bringing a pet. The store's phone number is on its page in the store locator, next to its opening hours.
How to Check Your Barnes & Noble's Hours
